“2010 is a critical year for the United Nations in Guinea-Bissau”, the SRSG says

2 February 2010 – The Special Representative of the Secretary-General (SRSG) and Head of the UN Integrated Office for Peacebuilding in Guinea-Bissau (UNIOGBIS) considers “2010 a critical year for the United Nations in Guinea-Bissau”, calling for a UN common strategy to address the country’s political stability, security and development and human rights issues.

8 January 2010 – The Government of Guinea-Bissau and the United Nations signed today an agreement leading to the voluntary departure, under guarantee, of Rear Admiral José Américo Bubo Na Tchuto from the UN premises in Bissau.

6 January 2010 – A Government delegation of six led by Ms. Hadja Satu Camara, Minister of Interior of Guinea-Bissau, on Tuesday 5 January 2010, met with Rear Admiral José Américo Bubo Na Tchuto at the United Nations compound in Bissau under the facilitation of the Special Representative of the Secretary-General, Mr. Joseph Mutaboba.

1 January 2010 – The United Nations is in “constant contact” with Guinea-Bissau in order to resolve the case of a former high ranking military who has entered United Nations premises in Bissau unnanounced and requested protection, the UN says in a statement.
